IN-HOME SPEECH THERAPY
At EHP Speech Therapy, we focus on the involvement of parents and caregivers to ensure each child reaches their full potential. Providing therapy in the home, daycare, preschool, and/or private school setting allows the therapist to meet the child’s needs in their natural environment.
Our mission is to provide the most effective and efficient plan of care to help each child communicate functionally across all settings. Our therapists are trained to work with all ages from infants to preschool to school aged children up to early adulthood. We understand the importance and value of parents and caregiver input throughout the assessment and treatment process to provide the best results and guarantee each child’s communication skills are functional in their natural environment.
EHP Speech Therapy has therapist across the Great Houston area. Providing therapy in the home allows children to work on their communication needs in their natural environment with family participation. EHP Speech Therapy provides services in the home, daycare, preschool, and private school settings. Providing therapy in these varies settings allow therapists to encourage parent/caregiver participation in therapy and creates a team approach at targeting communication goals. Areas of need should be targeted throughout the child’s daily routines and not just in treatment.
ASSESSMENTS
- Areas of assessment: articulation, expressive language, receptive language, social – pragmatic language, fluency, voice, and oral motor disorders
Screening
A quick screening can help parents to know if they should be concerned with their child’s development with communication and/or swallowing skills. Screenings are a great way for daycares, preschools, and private schools to help parents identify children that may need intervention from a speech language pathologist. Each screening is conducted on-site. Screenings are typically 20-30 minutes per child, using one to two short measures of the child’s skills. Measures can be informal and/or formal screening tools, such as professional observation, parent/teacher consultation, checklists, and standardized screeners. A screening outcome sheet with indication of recommendations for full evaluation, monitoring of child’s development, referral to other professional, and/or functioning within normal limits. For more information or to schedule a screening, please contact us.
Initial evaluation
Each child is evaluated based on their individual needs and areas of concern. An initial evaluation includes parent interview, play based observations, informal assessments, and formal assessments. The initial evaluation is a comprehensive snapshot of your child’s communication and/or swallowing strengths and areas of need. The initial evaluation will determine recommendations for the treatment plan, including, long-term and short-term goals, frequency of therapy, and home exercise plan. Initial evaluations can range from 1 – 1 ½ hours plus a formal report. The report will be provided and reviewed with the parent before treatment begins.
Reevaluation
A reevaluation will be completed every six months to a year based on the patient’s progress towards their long-term and short-term goals. A reevaluation assists in determining the continuation of therapy services, i.e., new long-term and short-term goals, increase or decrease in therapy services, or discharge from therapy services. Each reevaluation will include progress towards the patient’s current long-term and short-term goals as well as formal and informal measures in the area of need. Reevaluations can range from 1 – 1 ½ hours plus a formal report. The report will be provided and reviewed with the parent after each reevaluation.
TREATMENT
- Areas of Treatment: articulation, expressive language, receptive language, social – pragmatic language, fluency, voice, and oral motor disorders.
Based on the results and outcomes of the evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed by the therapists along with parent/caregiver input. A treatment plan consists of long-term and short-term goals, frequency of therapy, and home exercise plan. Treatment plans are individualized based on the patient’s evaluation. Therapy visits are typically 45 minutes.
Our therapists are highly qualified to work with children with communication and swallowing disorders. Our therapists use unique and creative ways to engage each child in therapy activities. Therapy goals are targeted using evidence based practice from the latest research to ensure each child is making progress to reach their highest potential. Therapist structure each session to maximize their time with the child each session. Each therapy session is individualized for the child’s specific needs and progress. Our therapists work hard to form a rapport with each child and patient so everyone looks forward to their time together.
